What will you take from this year into 2024?

As I wrapped up my coaching sessions this week, there were many great conversations about what a year 2023 has been and what 2024 could look like. Many people talked about having the time to slow down over the next few weeks and think about how to make next year feel less frantic.

I’m personally not a fan of the “new year, new me” BS and prefer to think about “new year, more experienced me”. There’s no need to recreate yourself and let all that experience go to waste.

So I thought I’d share some of the questions I’ve used to prompt both myself and my clients to reflect and set some intentions for the time ahead . Feel free to use them yourself or with your team, your family, maybe even your mates to generate some great conversations.

  • What have been the wins this year?

  • What do you want more of next year?

  • What were the challenges this year?

  • What do you want less of next year?

  • What did you learn from this year that will be useful as you go forward?

  • What do you want your holiday period to look, feel and be like?

  • What is most important to you over this time?

  • What do you need for yourself to help you come back to work refreshed?

  • What can you put in place now to ensure that you don’t drop yourself straight back onto the hamster wheel after the holiday?

And my all time favourite from Brene Brown…

  • What is the lesson that life is trying to teach you over and over again?

I’ll tell you my answer to that one…

My desire to strive and push boundaries, coupled with my innate default of being a “yes” person is great, until its not. A healthy dose of self-compassion and being kinder to myself would go a long way a bit earlier in the mix!
